Zephyr Mercer Counsellor

Hello I’m Zephyr

I had my first experience of Psychotherapy in my teens after struggling with Depression and disordered eating. I found the confidential, non-judgemental space offered invaluable. This fuelled my passion for understanding more about the mind, behaviour and the intersection of thoughts and feelings. I have explored Western psychology and Eastern spiritual perspectives and have maintained a daily yoga and meditation practice over the past 20 years. Although my yoga practice has enhanced both my physical and mental well-being and my understanding of self, I have benefitted deeply from engaging with periods of counselling and Transpersonal Psychotherapy and specifically Psychosynthesis.

Psychosynthesis holds the vision that we are all unique souls on a journey seeking to embrace our fullest potential. Our problems and failures can in fact steer us towards becoming more authentically ourselves. By embracing our challenges and considering their roots we may also be gifted wisdom and self knowledge on the path to greater wholeness and purpose.

I am a Psychosynthesis counsellor, offering an Integrative and Transpersonal approach that works with a wide range of difficulties such as depression and anxiety, relationship issues, grief, loneliness, shame and self-doubt, feeling struck or struggling in a crisis or life transition and self exploration on the journey to finding purpose and meaning.

I offer a safe, confidential, non-judgemental space where we may look at the past, present and future. My warm approach encourages collaboration and considers the conscious and unconscious aspects that develop when in relationship. It is important our therapeutic relationship is empathic and fosters trust and in time may incorporate creative work with the written word, images, dreams and the body to explore what is emerging together.

I volunteered for a number of years with Maytree Respite Centre and have experience working with Suicide, Self-Harm and what brings meaning to life. With an extensive background in Yoga and Meditation, I may also incorporate work with the body, breath and mindfulness into our sessions if relevant to your process. My whole-hearted approach hopes to provide an integration of therapeutic practices and wisdom from both eastern and western perspectives and may encourage daily rituals that could be of benefit to your process. Counselling offers space to explore what is troubling you and broaden your perspective on what choices you might take moving forward. Offering the chance to know oneself more intimately, this work can be both painful and challenging as well as comforting and exhilarating.
