Everyone can benefit from a good cup of T. I’m not talking about a cup of Darjeeling, Earl Grey or English Breakfast tea. I’m talking about T as in thinking and, more importantly, Thinking Clearly Under Pressure, i.e. TCUP.
TCUP will enable you to:
make good decisions, be more in control and make your life feel more comfortable.
We all experience pressure in various aspects of our life. Sometimes across more than one theme at a time and it can be very debilitating. Pressure can take many forms, such as difficulties with a personal relationship, too many work-based priorities or a challenging deadline.
Such experiences are likely to be very stressful and tiring. Causing us to feel anxious and overwhelmed, feeding self-doubt, weakening our confidence and ability to cope.
But,
it doesn’t have to be that way!
It may not be possible to remove the source of pressure, but we can always choose how we react to it. We can recognise that we have choices and there will be opportunities to exert some form of control. That won’t necessarily make life easy, but it will be a much better position to be in than allowing ourselves to be a ‘victim’ of whatever is troubling us.
How do we do that you might ask?
Choose the Right Attitude: Acknowledge that in any given situation, you have the freedom to choose your own attitude. So, choose to be positive and proactive rather than negative and reactive.
Manage Your State: Be in control of your mind and body: manage your thoughts, words, pulse rate, energy, focus and actions in a positive way.
Control Anxiety: Use Box Breathing or another preferred breathing technique to flood your body with oxygen, slow your pulse rate and calm your mind.
Be ‘in the Moment’: Focus on Tasks and Processes not outcome. Keep it simple by concentrating on the completion of small easy tasks such as household chores, hobbies and interests or gentle exercise.
Use Positive Self-Talk: Remember, you are the one who is always listening. So, speak optimistically about every single aspect of your life to calm your unconscious mind. Positive Thoughts lead to Positive Actions which tend to create Positive Outcomes.
Keep it Simple: Doing things that you are comfortable and familiar, which will calm your mind and increase the likelihood of success.
Control the Controllables: i.e. what you think, say and do. Let go of other details that you might complain about, but you have no influence over. Remember, where focus goes, energy flows.
Expect the Unexpected: So that it won’t shock or distract you. There is always another way, the challenge is to find it.
Keep Going: Practice, practice, practice until the above skills become a habit and are part of you normal lifestyle.
