The Threshold: Soft Beginnings & Gentle Renewal
Welcome to February reflection. As we move from Imbolc towards Spring, we stand at a quiet threshold. While the world often demands “New Year, New You” energy in January, nature tells a different story. Right now, life is beginning to stir, but it is doing so underground—unseen, patient, and protected.
This month, we invite you to stop pushing for change and start listening inward.
The Integrated Perspective: Honoring the Whole Self
As an Integrated Counsellor and Psychotherapist, my approach looks at the “whole” of you. We don’t just look at thoughts in isolation; we explore how your history, your body’s nervous system, and your current environment all weave together.
During this early-February transition, an integrated approach is particularly helpful:
- The Nervous System: After the contraction of winter, your system may feel brittle or tired. This isn’t “laziness”—it’s a biological state. Gentle renewal starts with safety, not effort.
- Working with Low Motivation: Instead of fighting low energy, we get curious about it. In psychotherapy, we often find that “low motivation” is actually the body’s way of protecting its resources. What is your low energy trying to tell you?
- Subtle Foundations: Rather than grand resolutions, we focus on the “micro.” Reconnecting with your intuition starts with small, sensory moments that ground you in the present.
Practices for the Stirring Season
How do we sense what is beginning to “stir” within us? Try this simple Integrated Grounding exercise to align your mind and body:
- Somatic Check-in: Take a breath and notice where you feel “heavy” or “light” in your body. Don’t try to change it; just acknowledge it.
- The Mindful Pause: In moments of low energy, ask: “If I were a field in winter, what would I need right now to prepare for spring?”
- Intuitive Listening: Spend five minutes today without a phone or distraction. Notice the first thought that arrives when you are quiet. That is often your intuition whispering.
A Reflection from the Practice
In our sessions, we often work on bridging the gap between where you are and where you want to be. Imbolc reminds us that the bridge is built in the quiet moments. By supporting your nervous system and clearing the “clutter” through subtle detoxification—be it digital, relational, or mental—you create the space for new growth to emerge naturally.
“Growth does not have to be loud to be significant. The most profound shifts often happen in the stillness before the bloom.”
Warmly,
Perdita Integrated Counsellor & Psychotherapist
