What is Counselling?

Counselling provides the opportunity to talk through your specific concerns and worries, in a safe and confidential place, with someone who is trained to listen and empathise with your thoughts and feelings without judgement.

When should I consider counselling?

Counselling can help with a very wide range of issues, including anxiety and depression, childhood trauma, bereavement and a wide range of health problems. Sometimes life just feels lonely, meaningless, miserable or frightening. You may feel angry, frustrated, numb, unable to cope. A counsellor will help you discuss and explore these issues, and will work with you to help you manage or resolve them. Sharing your thoughts and feelings with a trained person can help you make sense of things, understand yourself and your feelings, to cope better, and to feel more content in your life.

Counselling is a very personal process. Sometimes it may be necessary to talk about painful feelings or difficult decisions which can be challenging at times, but you are always free to work at your own pace. Usually, it will take a number of counselling sessions before you start to feel it is really making a difference, but the process is unique for every individual.

Emotional and psychological problems can have a profound effect on physical health, affecting our energy levels and our immune response. Counselling can help us feel better in mind and body.
